Skin renewal

What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel involves applying a solution containing one or more acids to the skin to produce a controlled exfoliation. The outermost layers shed and the skin renews itself, while collagen production in the dermis is stimulated.

There is no single peel: different acids have different effects and can be applied at different depths. Superficial peels cause little or no flaking and let you carry on with your normal life; medium peels work more deeply and need a few days of recovery. The choice depends on what you want to treat, your skin type and your phototype.

It is not the same as a cosmetic exfoliation: a medical peel uses concentrations and combinations that require prior assessment and professional supervision. At Centro Ubud we assess your skin before choosing the peel, prepare the skin when needed and give you an aftercare routine so the result is as expected and free of complications. For skin prone to pigmentation we choose more cautious acids and concentrations, because excessive inflammation can leave more pigment than you wanted to remove.

This treatment is for you if…

  • Your skin looks dull or has an uneven tone.
  • You have superficial pigmentation, acne marks or enlarged pores.
  • You have mild active acne or oily skin.
  • You want to improve texture and fine lines.

A peel can be combined with other treatments and is a good way to prepare the skin before other techniques. It can also be part of a maintenance routine throughout the year, with gentle peels that keep the skin radiant and even without interfering with your daily life.

Treatments

What a peel session involves

A quick in-clinic treatment, with a before-and-after care routine that is part of the result. Your habits at home matter as much as the session itself.

Before

Preparing the skin

In some cases we recommend a few weeks of preparatory creams. It is best to stop retinoids and exfoliants a few days beforehand.

Session

Controlled application

We cleanse the skin, apply the peel for the indicated time and then neutralise or remove it. You may feel itching or warmth for a few minutes.

After

Hydration and protection

Depending on the depth, there may be redness and flaking for a few days. It is essential to moisturise, not pick at the skin and use high-factor sunscreen. During those days we will recommend a simple, gentle routine without acids or retinoids until the skin has recovered.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about chemical peels

When is the best time to have a peel?
In autumn and winter, when there is less sun, especially if you want to treat pigmentation. Gentler peels can be done all year round with good sun protection.
How many peel sessions will I need?
Superficial peels are usually done in courses of several sessions a few weeks apart. The number depends on what you want to treat and how your skin responds.
Will my skin peel?
It depends on the type. Superficial peels usually cause fine, almost unnoticeable flaking; with medium peels the skin visibly peels for several days.
Does it hurt?
You feel itching or warmth while the acid is working, which disappears once it is removed. It is brief and tolerable discomfort.
What is the difference between a chemical peel and Dermapen?
A peel renews the skin’s surface using acids; Dermapen creates microchannels to stimulate collagen deeper down. Peels are usually preferred for pigmentation; Dermapen for scars and texture. They are often combined.
Who should not have a peel?
It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active cold sores, wounds, dermatitis or sunburn in the area, or if you have recently taken isotretinoin. Darker skin or skin prone to pigmentation needs specific, gentler peels.
How much does a chemical peel cost in Torremolinos?
It depends on the type of peel and the number of sessions. At the free consultation we give you a fixed quote with no obligation.
