What are polynucleotides?

Polynucleotides are chains of purified DNA fragments of natural origin, used in aesthetic medicine for their ability to stimulate tissue regeneration. When injected into the dermis, they act as a scaffold and a source of nutrients for fibroblasts, supporting collagen production, hydration and the repair of damaged skin.

Unlike a filler, they add no volume. And unlike a skinbooster, their main role is not just to hydrate but to improve the structural quality of the skin: more thickness, more elasticity, better texture and less redness or reactivity. That is why they are described as a “repair” treatment.

They are especially useful in areas of very thin skin, such as around the eyes, where other treatments have more limitations, and on sensitive, mature or sun-damaged skin or skin with acne marks.

At Centro Ubud they are applied by a doctor, who assesses the condition of your skin and decides which areas to treat and which technique to use, whether spread-out micro-injections or a cannula around the eyes.

After the session small papules may remain, which disappear within a few hours. It is best not to wear make-up until the next day and to avoid direct sun, saunas and intense exercise for a couple of days. As with any skin-quality treatment, daily sun protection and a simple home routine help the improvement last longer.

This treatment is for you if…

  • You have thin, fragile skin or fine lines around your eyes.
  • Your dark circles are due to thin, slightly dark skin, without marked hollowing.
  • Your skin is sensitive, flushes easily or doesn’t tolerate other treatments well.
  • You notice uneven texture, with pores or superficial acne marks.
  • You want to improve the quality of your skin without changing your features.

It is not recommended during pregnancy, breastfeeding, with a known allergy to marine-derived ingredients or with active infections in the area. If your dark circles are caused by hollowing, a different approach may be needed.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about polynucleotides

How many polynucleotide sessions are needed?
A course of several sessions a few weeks apart is usually planned, with maintenance afterwards. The exact number depends on the condition of your skin and is confirmed at your consultation.
When will I notice results?
The effect is gradual. Many people notice plumper skin after the first sessions, but the improvement in thickness and texture is clearer once the course is complete.
Do polynucleotides hurt?
With numbing cream the discomfort is mild. Around the eyes we work very carefully and, where appropriate, with a cannula.
What side effects are there?
Small papules, redness or the odd bruise may appear, disappearing within hours or a few days. It rarely interferes with your routine.
Do they work for dark circles?
They help with dark circles caused by thin, dark skin or fine lines. If the dark circle is due to a hollow tear trough, it usually needs filler, and if it is a fat pad, a different approach.
What is the difference between polynucleotides and skinbooster?
Skinbooster focuses on hydrating with hyaluronic acid. Polynucleotides aim to regenerate and strengthen the skin. They can be alternated or combined depending on the case.
Are they suitable for sensitive skin or rosacea?
They are generally well tolerated by sensitive skin, but each case is assessed individually, especially if there are active flare-ups.
How much does polynucleotide treatment cost?
It depends on the areas and the number of sessions. At your free consultation we give you a fixed quote.
