Why do crow’s feet appear?

Crow’s feet are the wrinkles at the outer corners of the eyes. They are caused by the orbicularis oculi, the circular muscle around the eye that contracts every time you smile, squint in the sun or have a good laugh. The skin here is among the thinnest on the body, so it creases easily.

In a sunny area like the Costa del Sol they often appear early: smiling is added to squinting against the light and accumulated sun damage, which thins the skin and reduces its collagen. At first they only show when you smile and, over the years, they stay marked at rest.

For dynamic crow’s feet the most effective treatment is neuromodulators, which temporarily and locally relax the outer part of the orbicularis muscle. The wrinkles soften and your eyes look more rested, while the part of the muscle that keeps your smile natural is respected.

At Centro Ubud it is performed by a doctor who assesses the way you smile, the position of the tail of your brow and the quality of the skin around your eyes, to decide where and how much to apply.

This treatment is for you if…

  • You get fan-shaped wrinkles beside your eyes when you smile.
  • The lines are visible even when you’re not smiling.
  • Your concealer or foundation settles around your eyes.
  • You spend a lot of time in the sun and often squint.
  • You want fresher-looking eyes without your smile changing.

Fine lines caused by very thin or dehydrated skin don’t depend only on the muscle: sometimes it is worth combining with skin-quality treatments. It is not given during pregnancy, breastfeeding or with neuromuscular conditions.

A well-targeted application can help the outer part of the brow look slightly lifted, opening up your eyes.

Polinucleótidos en Torremolinos · Centro Ubud

Thin skin around the eyes

If the skin has fine lines due to poor quality, we consider adding polynucleotides or skinbooster to improve texture and hydration.

Dark circles and bags

Crow’s feet are not the same as dark circles or under-eye bags. If the lower part of the eye also concerns you, we assess it separately.

How we treat crow’s feet

A quick medical procedure, with personalised doses and a follow-up check to fine-tune the result.

Assessment

The way you smile

The doctor looks at how far the wrinkles extend, how your cheeks move when you smile and the position of your brow to choose the points.

Session

A few minutes

Small amounts are applied at several superficial points on each side of the eye, using very fine needles and no anaesthetic.

Effect

Check-up at 2 weeks

The effect shows within a few days and is complete at around two weeks. At the follow-up we check that both sides are balanced.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about crow’s feet

Will it show when I smile?
The aim is that it won’t. The outer part of the muscle is treated with adjusted doses so your smile stays natural, just with fewer lines at the sides.
How long does crow’s feet treatment last?
The effect is temporary and usually lasts several months, although it depends on the person, the strength of the muscle and habits such as sun exposure.
Does it hurt?
They are very superficial pricks with fine needles. Most people tolerate it easily and no anaesthetic is needed.
Can I get bruises?
The skin around the eyes is thin and occasionally a small bruise appears, which can be covered with make-up and disappears within a few days.
What is the difference between crow’s feet and dark circles?
Crow’s feet are expression lines at the side of the eye and are treated by relaxing the muscle. Dark circles are changes in colour or volume under the eye and need other treatments.
Can I treat only my crow’s feet?
Yes. Many people treat only this area, although it can also be combined with the forehead or frown lines if you want a more overall effect.
What aftercare is needed?
For the first few hours it is best not to lie down, not to rub your eyes or massage the area and to avoid intense exercise, saunas or strong heat. Wear sunscreen and sunglasses every day: the sun is one of the main causes of this wrinkle.
How much does crow’s feet treatment cost?
It depends on the areas you want to treat and whether you combine it with other treatments. At your free consultation we give you a fixed quote.
