Hollow under-eyes
A marked tear trough that creates a shadow. This is the case that responds best to hyaluronic acid filler.
When your dark circles are actually a hollow under the eye, the shadow it casts makes you look permanently tired. With a small, well-placed amount of hyaluronic acid, the doctor softens that groove for a more rested look.

Not all dark circles are the same. Some are about colour, due to pigment or blood vessels showing through thin skin. Others are about volume: with age, or because of genetics, the area under the eye loses fat and support and a hollow forms, the tear trough, which creates a crescent-shaped shadow.
Tear trough filler is designed for this second type. It involves placing a small amount of hyaluronic acid, with a texture specific to the area, in the deep layer under the eye. This softens the transition between the lower eyelid and the cheek, much of the shadow disappears and your eyes look fresher.
It is a treatment that demands precision. The eyelid skin is very thin, the area has many blood vessels and it is prone to retaining fluid, so we work with little product and almost always with a cannula. More is not better: too much can show as a bulge or a bluish tint.
That is why, at Centro Ubud, tear trough filler is performed by a doctor and the key lies in the prior assessment: deciding honestly whether your dark circles are the kind that improve with filler or whether you need a different treatment.
You are not a good candidate if you have prominent fat bags, regular fluid retention, very thin and lax skin or dark circles that are only about colour. In those cases we suggest other options or, if needed, a surgical assessment.

When dark circles are due to translucent skin, a regenerative treatment such as polynucleotides usually works better.

If there is a fat bag or fluid retention, filler can make it worse. We assess what can be improved without surgery.
Under-eye bags
Sometimes the dark circle stands out because the cheek has lost support. Treating the cheekbone can indirectly improve the under-eye area.

A delicate medical procedure, with little product and a lot of precision.
Using different lighting and positions, the doctor examines whether your dark circles are due to volume, colour, bags or a mix, and whether you are a candidate.
After local anaesthetic, a cannula is inserted through a single entry point and the hyaluronic acid is placed in the deep layer. It takes around thirty minutes.
The improvement shows from day one, although swelling takes a few days to settle. At the follow-up we assess whether a small touch-up is needed.
If your dark circles combine several factors, filler, skin regeneration and pigmentation treatments can be combined.
