Why does the chin matter so much in your profile?
The chin is the foundation of the lower third of the face. When it lacks projection (what is known as a receding chin or mild retrogenia), the profile loses balance: the nose looks bigger than it is, the lips look pushed forward and the line between chin and neck becomes blurred, which also makes a double chin more noticeable.
The chin also changes with age: the bone is slightly reabsorbed, the tissues lose support and a dimpled “orange-peel” chin (that textured look when you tense your chin) or a deeper groove between chin and lower lip can appear.
Chin filler with hyaluronic acid, sometimes called non-surgical chin augmentation, allows us to project the chin forward, lengthen it slightly if the face is short, or round and refine it depending on what you need. An outpatient medical procedure, with local anaesthetic and a product designed to provide structure.

Questions about chin filler
What is the difference between chin filler and surgical chin augmentation?
Surgical chin augmentation uses an implant or reshapes the bone, and the result is permanent. Hyaluronic acid filler requires no operating theatre, the result is visible straight away and it is reabsorbable, so it can be adjusted or reversed. For moderate retrusion it is usually a good alternative; in severe cases we will point you towards surgery.
How long does chin filler last?
Dense products are used in the chin and tend to last longer than in other areas, in many cases more than a year, although it depends on the person and the product. We will tell you when to come back for a review.
Does it hurt?
Anaesthetic is applied and the product usually contains built-in anaesthetic. Most patients feel it as pressure and brief discomfort.
What is the recovery like?
There may be swelling, tenderness to the touch or a small bruise for a few days. You can carry on as normal, avoiding intense exercise, strong heat and pressing or massaging the area for the first 48 hours.
Does chin filler help with a double chin?
It can improve the definition between chin and neck and make a double chin less noticeable, but it does not remove fat. If there is fat under the chin, we look at a specific double-chin treatment.
Who should not have it?
It is not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active infections or lesions in the area, or in people with a known allergy to its components. Active autoimmune conditions and anticoagulants should be discussed at the consultation.
