Scars

Not all scars are the same

A scar is the skin’s way of repairing a wound, and it does so with collagen that is more disorganised than the original. Depending on how that repair went, the scar may end up flat and pale, sunken (atrophic), raised but confined to the wound (hypertrophic) or growing beyond its edges (keloid). It may also be redder or darker than the surrounding skin.

C-section and abdominal surgery scars have an extra component: sometimes the skin stays stuck to the deeper layers, with a feeling of tightness, a dip or a small overhang above it. Stretch marks, for their part, are tears in the dermis caused by stretching; recent ones are reddish or purplish, and older ones are whitish and pearly.

That is why at Centro Ubud we start by identifying the type of scar, its age and its colour. We combine aesthetic medicine, performed by a doctor, for texture and tone, with physiotherapy when there are adhesions or tightness. What we aim for is a scar that is flatter, blends in better with the surrounding skin and feels more comfortable. Throughout the process it is essential to protect the scar from the sun, as exposure can darken it permanently.

This treatment is for you if…

  • You have a C-section scar with a dip, overhang or tightness.
  • The appearance of a surgical or accident scar bothers you.
  • You have stretch marks on your abdomen, hips, thighs or chest.
  • Your scar is darker or redder than the skin around it.
  • You want an honest answer about how much it can improve.

Recent scars keep changing for many months. The sooner you see us, the sooner we can advise you on aftercare and the right time to treat.

Treatments

How we improve scars

We choose the techniques according to the type, age and colour of the scar.

Texture

Dermapen (microneedling)

Controlled micro-perforations that reorganise the collagen in the scar and improve its surface. It is done over several spaced-out sessions, because collagen remodels slowly and the improvement becomes visible over the months.

Colour

Peels and depigmenting agents

For scars or stretch marks that are darker than the skin. They are adapted to your skin type so as not to cause new pigmentation.

Mobility

Scar physiotherapy

For adherent scars, physiotherapists use manual therapy and INDIBA radiofrequency to release the tissue and reduce tightness. They also teach you self-massage so you can continue at home between sessions.

Regeneration

Regenerating active ingredients

After each session we apply active ingredients that support skin repair and enhance the effect of the treatment.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about body scars

Can scars be removed?
No technique erases a scar completely, but its surface, colour and flexibility can be improved noticeably, until it blends in better with the surrounding skin.
When can I treat a C-section scar?
For aesthetic techniques such as microneedling, we usually wait until the scar is fully closed and mature. Physiotherapy and aftercare can start earlier, when your practitioner advises. We assess each case individually.
How many sessions do I need?
It depends on the type of scar, its size and its age. Usually several sessions a few weeks apart are needed. We give you an approximate plan during your consultation.
What is the difference between a hypertrophic scar and a keloid?
A hypertrophic scar is raised but stays within the limits of the wound and can improve over time. A keloid grows beyond those edges. Keloids need a specific medical approach and are not treated with microneedling.
Does the treatment hurt?
With anaesthetic cream, microneedling is well tolerated. Afterwards the area stays red for a day or two. Scar physiotherapy may cause some discomfort, but always tolerable.
Can stretch marks be removed?
Reddish stretch marks, in the inflammatory phase, respond better and can fade considerably. White ones improve in texture and tone, but do not disappear. It is best to keep expectations realistic.
When is it not recommended?
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, with infections or open wounds, with a tendency to keloids in the case of microneedling, or with scars that hurt, grow or change for no reason, which a doctor should assess first.
How much does scar treatment cost in Torremolinos?
It depends on the type and size of the scar and the techniques needed. At your free consultation we give you a fixed, no-obligation quote.
