Why exercise is at the heart of treatment

Therapeutic exercise is the prescription of movement with a clinical goal: to reduce pain, restore function after an injury, improve strength and mobility or prevent relapses. Unlike generic exercise, it is adapted to your diagnosis, your starting level and how your body responds, and it is adjusted session by session.

Clinical guidelines recommend it as a cornerstone for low back and neck pain, tendinopathies, knee and hip osteoarthritis, recovery from sprains and muscle injuries, and rehabilitation after surgery. Passive techniques can bring short-term relief, but it is exercise that restores the ability of your tissues and nervous system to tolerate what you ask of them.

Exercising with pain raises questions. We teach you to interpret discomfort: mild, short-lived discomfort during exercise is usually acceptable, whereas pain that increases and persists the next day means the load needs adjusting. That way you progress safely and without fear.

At Centro Ubud sessions are led by physiotherapists. We combine supervised work in the clinic with a programme for home or the gym, and we measure your progress with strength, mobility and function tests.

The key lies in dose and progression. We start with exercises you tolerate well, increase the load gradually and, when the goal is returning to sport, finish with fast movements, jumps or sport-specific drills. The ultimate aim is for you not to depend on the clinic: you leave with a plan you understand and can keep up on your own to prevent relapses.

This treatment is for you if…

  • You have persistent back, neck or joint pain.
  • You are recovering from a sports injury or surgery.
  • You want to get back to running, training or your usual activity safely.
  • You have had relapses and want to prevent them.

If you notice chest pain, disproportionate breathlessness, dizziness or palpitations during exertion, consult your doctor before continuing. If there are warning signs in your injury, we will refer you for a medical assessment.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about therapeutic exercise

What is the difference between therapeutic exercise and personal training?
Therapeutic exercise is prescribed by a physiotherapist based on a clinical assessment and with a specific health goal, such as recovering from an injury or reducing pain.
Can I exercise if I am in pain?
In many cases, yes, and it is part of the treatment. We adjust the load so that any discomfort is tolerable and does not get worse the next day.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on your goal. We usually combine supervised sessions with independent work, spacing out visits as you become more self-sufficient.
Do I need to go to a gym?
Not necessarily. We can design programmes with minimal equipment, such as resistance bands or light dumbbells, to do at home, or build them into your gym routine.
How long before I notice the effect?
Some people notice less pain within a few weeks; changes in strength and tissue capacity take more time and consistency.
Is it suitable for older people?
Yes. Adapted exercise is very useful for maintaining strength, balance and independence at any age. We adjust the intensity and choose safe exercises, and if there are cardiovascular, respiratory or other conditions, we take your doctor’s advice into account.
How much does therapeutic exercise cost in Torremolinos?
It depends on your case and the recommended treatment plan. At the free consultation we give you a fixed quote with no obligation.
Where are you and how do I book?
