Saddlebags
The fat on the outer thigh, below the hip bone, which gives the silhouette its ‘violin’ shape.
Saddlebags are that build-up of fat on the outer thigh, just below the hip, which widens your silhouette and barely changes with diet. We treat it without surgery using a medical protocol.

Saddlebags are part of the typically female fat distribution, known as gynoid, which concentrates fatty tissue on the hips, buttocks and thighs. This fat is strongly influenced by oestrogen and serves as a reserve, so the body tends to hold on to it. That is why many women lose weight from the face, chest and abdomen, while their saddlebags barely budge.
Genetics play a big part in the shape and size of saddlebags. That is why they appear even in slim, sporty women, and why training your legs, although it improves tone and shape, does not make that fat disappear on its own. They also often come with cellulite and fluid retention in the same area.
At Centro Ubud we first assess how much of the volume is fat, how much is orange-peel skin or fluid, and how firm the skin is. The doctor then proposes a protocol to reduce fat on the outer thigh and gradually improve the contour between hip and leg.
If the volume affects the whole leg symmetrically, with tenderness to the touch and easy bruising, it may be lipoedema, which needs a different approach. We assess this with you.
